Helen has been working with clay for the past 20 years. Between leaving school at 16 and intending to enrol at Norwich school of Art at 18 she worked in 2 local potteries. There she discovered the love for clay that led insteadto a course in Ceramics at what was then the ‘Norfolk College for Art and Design’ On completing her studies she set up her own business. Initially producing pots, she found that her work naturally led her into sculpting, and a new direction.
Helen has been sculpting from her workshop/studio at Alby Craft Centre for the past 10 years. Her passion is for Greenmen, as is evident when you look around her showroom and see her range of more than 50 different leafy faces. Her current work includes a large range of historically inspired pieces in cast stone, as well as some ceramic figurative based sculpture and one-off commissions for all manner of things!
Mainly Helens work is modelled in clay and cast in a weather proof stone material, but among the sculpture that she has on display are ceramic Greenmen, male and female nude sculpture and some examples of the type of work that she does to commission.
